I caught a young blue heron fishing for it's dinner at Boundary Bay last week in the magic time light of the early stages of sunset. The sun was going in and out of the big sunset cloud so I had to watch my settings but it provided some fine images. For a while I feared it might go hungry but it finally nailed one. After it had it's fish however it appeared not to know how to safely get it into it's throat without losing it overboard. Finally it played it safe and flew ashore before performing the somewhat tricky maneuver of flipping it up and catching it deeper in the back of it's bill before swallowing.
